But there's a catch: Even with perfect containerized dependencies, embedded development has one unavoidable external dependency—the host system.

Document Host Dependencies (Or Regret It Later)

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: No matter how well you containerize your toolchain, you still depend on the host for:

  • Debug hardware drivers: You can’t reach your target system if the host doesn’t recognize your JTAG/SWD probe.

  • Device access: --device passthrough fails if the host can’t find or expose the device file.

  • Kernel quirks: Ever had a USB device just refuse to work on a new machine?

  • Create a HOST_SETUP.md listing exactly what’s needed:
